The Canadian Iron & Steel Energy Research Association (CISERA) was formed in 1965 to conduct research on behalf of Canada’s steel and metallurgical coal producers for the competitive advantage of the industry.
CISERA has 5 corporate members. These include Canada’s major steel companies, coal mining company and government members.
The Association has a Technical Committee of industrial/ government experts that meets quarterly to review and plan research.
Most of the research sponsored by CISERA is performed at the Metallurgical Fuels Laboratory (MFL) of CanmetENERGY-Ottawa, a national research laboratory within the Department of Natural Resources Canada. MFL has complete facilities for modeling, laboratory, and pilot scale research into energy applications for metallurgical processes
